Ditch the love/hate relationship with your hair this summer. [salon] 718 is looking out for you with these beneficial tips to beat the summer damage.
Tip One: Sunscreen PSA

Girls just wanna have sun… But girls don’t wanna have sun damage from UVA and UVB rays. The scalp is vulnerable to sunburns and most concerning, melanoma. Melanoma on the scalp contributes to 15% of skin cancers, affecting both men and women. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends using at least a broad spectrum 30 SPF and wearing a wide brim hat made with UV blocking material labeled 50+ SPF, as well as using sunscreen that is oil free and water resistant on your scalp. According to the New York State Department of Health, Melanoma is on the rise. For adults aged 20 to 34 years, melanoma ranks among the top four cancers in NYS, so while you’re at it don’t forget to apply sunscreen to your entire face and body.
Tip Two: Shield Your Hair

So, you’ve lathered up with sunscreen, and are about to bask in a relaxing sunbathing session. Did you know that UVA and UVB rays can damage the outer layer of your hair no matter the hair type? These harsh rays can contribute split ends, discoloration, frizziness, breakage and destroy moisture in your hair. Wearing hats and scarves can help but to ensure extra protection use PHYTOPLAGE Protective Sun Veil as a sunscreen to guarantee that your hair stays healthy all summer long!
Tip Three: H2O, watch that hair grow!

You know that water is essential for your body, but did you know that water is essential for your hair? Water makes up roughly 25% of the volume of a single strand of hair! Filling up your water bottle and staying hydrated throughout the summer will keep your gorgeous locks looking and feeling nourished all summer long.
Tip Four: Get that Platinum Protection

Bleach me baby, one more time… but please don’t turn green in the pool! One of the biggest culprits to summer hair is chlorine. Not only can it dry out hair, but it can turn platinum into a jello green colored disaster. So, what causes the blonde to turn green? With copper found in our water supply, the chlorine oxidizes the copper. The copper in return binds to the protein in hair strands. The reaction is that the metal will then produce a green tint. It affects every shade of hair if the copper content is high, it just happens to be more noticeably in blonde hair.
So what can we do before hitting the pool? Masking up and prevention is key to preserving your blonde locks. Coating your hair with a leave in moisture mask like Phyto 7. Using a pea sized amount in the palm of your hand, apply evenly to towel dried or dry hair focusing on the ends. Phyto 7 is infused with seven pure and natural hair protecting and conditioning plant extracts which will act as a shield against the pool water while keeping it moisturized.
Adding a swim cap as a protective layer will also aide in keeping your platinum looking pure.
What if my hair does turn green? Let’s clarify… with this shampoo I mean, Phytodetox Clarifying Detox Shampoo works in reversing the harmful effects of chlorine by removing chemical and mineral deposits that can damage hair or discolor our hair leaving the dreaded green tint. Yikes!
Tip Five: Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

Once you’re ready to pack up your towel, water bottle, and sunbathing essentials, lets maintain those summer #hairgoals. PHYTOPLAGE After-Sun Shampoo replenishes the moisture that the sun has parched from your strands. Gently eliminating sand, sunscreen and mineral deposit buildup in your hair and on your scalp. Bonus! You can use PHYTOPLAGE After-Sun Shampoo on your body as well to gently wash away any buildup of sand, salt, sunscreen and chlorine.
