“This move to [salon]718 Dumbo marks a monumental and exciting turning point in my career. It justifies the endless hours of long work and tireless dedication to my craft which has now culminated into what I feel will be the most amazing chapter of my life so far” says Rote. “The immediate connection I felt to [salon]718 was palpable, and the fact that owner Michaella Blissett Williams and her staff eat, sleep and breath education really sealed the deal.” Rote continues “This energy and drive to build each other up as a team fuels my passion as a stylist and educator. As for being in Dumbo at the Pureology flagship store? That is pretty much the icing on the already fabulous cake. This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I could not be happier”
Katie Rote’s Background
Rote began her 15-year career in 2004 at Central Beauty School in Cambridge, MN. After becoming a member of the National Cosmetology Association in June of 2005, Rote started as an apprentice at Top Colour Shop in Hopkins, MN – which she chose specifically because of the mentorship provided by Schwarzkopf and Goldwell color educators – Miguel and Babette Newman. Here she learned the ins and outs of the magic of color and styling and eventually worked her way up.
After years of honing her craft, Rote felt that it was time to step out on her own. In 2009, she opened her own studio salon – C’est La Vie Studio – under the franchise of Sola Salon Studios in Edina, MN. During this time, Rote became an artist for Keune. She attended national artist conferences in Atlanta, GA and completed the following classes held at the Atlanta Academy: Color certification, Masters of The Craft 1, Platform Fundaments and Color Faster. She then had the privilege of being one of two artists asked to introduce and educate all of the U.S. Keune stylists and management on Keune’s Keratin straightening system. She also traveled nationally, educating her peers on Keune color, technique, and cut trends until she left the company in June of 2015.
Shortly thereafter, Rote became the Director of Education for WarPaint International Beauty Agency. Always a natural teacher, she was eager to teach others what she had learned. She created classes for the contracted artist of WPI, and also did onsite Bridal hair, styling, runway, and finishing. While there, Warpaint International teamed up with Opera Carolina where Rote designed and created 16 different hairstyles for Couture New York Fashion Week that related to the different Operas and the paper dresses that were created.
In September of 2016 Rote became a Pure Artist with Pureology. She travelled all over the country giving back to her peers through education, and by 2018 found herself working New York Fashion Week with designer Maria Cornejo. During this time, she truly came to harness and combine the power of her love of education, and her creativity. Rote inherently understood that these two things were the driving force behind the kind of stylist she wanted to be. In June 2019, Katie decided to close her studio after 10 years and make the big move to New York to join the team at [Salon]718 Dumbo. Here she will forge the next chapter of her amazing journey, and embark upon a world of new experiences, aspirations, and goals. There is no doubt she will achieve them all.
